After the billion dollar grossing success of Alice In Wonderland, it’s taken Disney a while to get a sequel going. Now they’ve kicked into high gear with the news that Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska have been confirmed to star in the movie, and a May 27, 2016 release date has been set for Alice in Wonderland 2.
Disney has also set its live-action version of The Jungle Book for October 9, 2015.
While Alice in Wonderland was released in early March 2010, the follow-up is being given a prime Memorial Day weekend release. At the moment it doesn’t have any direct competition, although that’s likely to change as the other studios firm up with 2016 release schedule.
Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are slated to reprise their roles as The Mad Hatter and Alice, although no other cast members have been confirmed. James Bobin is directing from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, although it isn’t clear when production will begin.
