Spooks (known as MI-5 is the US) has been a big success for the BBC on the small screen, so much so that it’s now set to become a movie, called Spooks: The Greater Good. ScreenDaily has the news on the film, saying Kit Harington, Jennifer Ehle and Peter Firth are all signed up to star.
Firth is of course a veteran of the show, and indeed is the only person who appeared in pretty much every episode us the tough but fair Harry Pearce.
Stephen Garrett of the film’s backers, Shine Pictures, commented, “Weve set out to make a gripping, cinematic, contemporary spy thriller – one that builds on the history of the show and its legacy of questioning the world around us, but which also delivers as a standalone film for a new, global audience. Harington will Harry Pearce’s protoge Will Crombie, who is investigating how a terrorist escaped from custody during a routine handover. As this is spook there’s also the threat of an imminent terror attack on London. Ehle will be head of MI5, Dame Geraldine Maltby.
Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, who worked on the show, wrote the script. Bharat Nalluri will direct with filming set to kick off next Spring.
