Back in May Reese Witherspoon signed up to star alongside Keanu Reeves in the sci-fi flick Passengers. However she has now been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and so Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to replace her, according to Deadline.
Reeves is playing one of thousands of people who set off on an 120-year interstellar voyage to a new planet. However he wakes up 90 years ahead of schedule, with only androids for companionship. In need of company, he decides to wake up a female journalist named Aurora (Rachel McAdams). As this is a film, they inevitably begin to fall in love, and also discover a malfunction on the ship that could threaten their lives.
Brian Kirk is making his feature directorial debut, having made his name helming episodes of TV shows such as Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the script.
