When The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift was released in 2006, it seemed like Lucas Black was poised to take over the franchise. But when Paul Walker and Vin Diesel’s career didn’t take off quite as they’d hoped, they returned for the fourth film in the series and that was the last we’ve seen of Black’s Sean Boswell.
However now he’s returning, as Deadline says he’s won’t just be in Fast & Furious 7, he’ll also be in the planned parts 8 & 9 of the racing series.
Oddly enough, it actually makes sense that he wasn’t in the last three films, as Fast & Furious 4, 5 & 6 are all set before Tokyo Drift, but a post-credits scene in the most recent film shows that we’ve caught up to the events shown in the third movie, which allows Boswell’s return without breaking the continuity.
He joins a cast that includes franchise mainstays Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, along with new additions Jason Statham, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel and Djimon Hounsou.
James Wan is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. Filming has already begun.
