Derek Cianfrance’s profile has certainly risen thanks to Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines. Now he’s planning his next movie, with Variety reporting that he’s set to direct The Light Between Oceans for DreamWorks.
The film will be based on the debut novel from M.L. Stedman, which ‘takes place on a remote Australian island after World War I, where a lighthouse keeper and his wife face a moral dilemma when a dead man and a two-month-old infant wash up in a boat on shore.’
It may be for DreamWorks but it certainly sounds like Cianfrance is sticking to the indie drama feel. Harry Potter’s David Heyman will produce.
While Cianfrance has made his last two movies with Ryan Gosling, the actor has recently said he’s taking a break, so he may not appear in this one.
