Among all the news that Disney has been revealing at their D23 Expo comes the announcement of a new Peter Pan prequel that Disneytoon Studios is making, The Pirate Fairy. While Disneytoon is largely responsible for Disney’s straight-to-DVD offerings, they do sometimes go a little bigger and theatrical, such as with the Cars spin-off Planes, which hit US theatres this weekend.
It seems they’ll be doing the same with The Pirate Fairy, and they’ve already signed Tom Hiddleston to help them. He’ll be playing a young Captain Hook in the movie. The film is a spin-off from Disney’s increasingly popular Tinker Bell series (which gave birth to the Disney Fairies brand).
Here’s the synopsis: ‘When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollows all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tinks world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.’
Hiddleston will be James, a cabin boy who ends up becoming Captain Hook and who Zarina falls for. It should be out Spring 2014.
