Leo DiCaprio must really love the Vikings, as a few years ago he was attached to star in he was attached to star in an epic Norse tale, which Mel Gibson was set to direct. However when Gibson went back into meltdown mode, the project disappeared.
However Warner Bros. and DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company have bought Mark L. Smiths Viking-based script pitch, King Harald, which will be developed for Leo to star in. DiCaprio is apparently a history buff and is keen to get the movie off the ground.
Deadline says the movie is about Harald Hardrada, the 11th Century conqueror who has been called the last great Viking king. Harald was ‘King of Norway for two decades, but his quest for power and thirst for battle led to his being exiled for a time to Russia and then returning in triumph.’
The movie is apparently envisioned as a Braveheart-style story, so it’ll be hoping to go epic.
