A couple of years ago there was talk of Eddie Murphy making Beverly Hills Cop 4, but then they decided to try and make a TV series instead, concentrating on the son of Murphy’s Axel Foley. However CBS decided they didn’t make to make it into a series after they commissioned a pilot.
Now plans for Beverly Hills Cop 4 are back in motion, with Deadline reporting that screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) have been hired to write the script and Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley.
Although the Beverly Hills Cop pilot wasn’t picked up, Paramount was reportedly intrigued by the interest garnered by the TV show, which tested very well and featured Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley and Brandon T. Jackson as his son, Aaron Foley, a rookie cop at the Beverly Hills Police Department. The thought is that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will follow a similar father-son dynamic.
The earlier incarnation of Beverly Hills Cop 4 had Brett Ratner attached to direct from a script by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (Wanted), Although none of them are involved anymore.
