Back in the 1980s, Bloodsport was one of the films that helped launch Jean-Claude Van Dammes film career. It led to two sequels in the mid-90s, neither of which starred Van Damme. Now Relativity Media thinks its time for a reboot, and theyve hired James McTeigue (V For Vendetta, The Raven) to direct it, according to Variety.
Back in 2011, Philip Noyce was hired to direct, but hes no longer involved. The new Bloodsport will have a fresh story, although set in a similar world to the original 1988 movie). Robert Mark Kamen (Taken) came up with the script (which will now be rewritten by Craig Rosenberg, under McTeigues supervision), which follows a group of 21st Century mercenaries who clash with the underground world of Brazilian Vale Tudo fighting.
No cast members have been announced yet, and it seems at the moment that original Bloodsport star Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be back. Theres no news on when it might shoot.
