With Fast & Furious becoming more popular with each instalment and DreamWorks unleashing Need For Speed early next year, Sony has decided to get in on the car racing action with its own automotive video game adaptation, Gran Turismo.
They’ve brought Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti (Fifty Shades of Grey) on board to produce a movie version of the popular titles, according to TheWrap.
The games don’t follow a specific storyline, but feature 140 different cars from around the globe, taking racers to 11 different racing courses. The series is one of Sony’s best selling titles to date, with more than 70 million copies sold. The lack of a story leaves things wide open, but the company obviously hopes name recognition will help.
As well as Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, Legendary Pictures is working on a deal with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Simon Crane to bring Hot Wheels to the big screen.
