While all the Comic-Con attention has been on Marvel, DC and X-Men, the likes of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes also tried to make their presence felt. The first image from the movie has now been released, showing us Caesar looking rather moody, surrounded by other super-intelligent simians.
In the sequel, which is set several years after the first film, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Caesar realises that while he may be the first and the nominal leader, keeping control of his fellow apes isn’t going to be easy.
Andy Serkis, celebrated for his performance in the last film, reprises his role as Caesar. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also stars Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.
Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) directs, with a May 23rd, 2014 release already set.
