It’s not even three month since the Boston Marathon Bombing, but Hollywood is already eyeing it as a possible movie, with Deadline reporting the Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, the writing duo behind David O. Russell’s The Fighter, have picked up the rights to the upcoming book, Boston Strong, by journalist and true crime author Casey Sherman, and Boston Herald reporter Dave Wedge.
The idea of the book isn’t just to tell the story of the bombing and the massive manhunt that followed, but also to capture the reaction of ordinary Bostonians to the events that overtook their city. Many will inevitably feel it’s still far too soon to be thinking about making a movie based on the tragedy, and indeed Tamasy and Johnson may find that feeling a roadblock to actually getting the project funded. However if they can find the right way to do it, it may become a worthwhile project.
And of course, with the book not due until next year and films generally taking even longer to produce, it may not seem so tacky by the time the movie itself materialises.
