Danny Dyer seems to amount to about half of the British film industry, making an endless stream of movies, most of which see him acting hard as nails and using the word ‘numpty’ a lot. Now he’s got a new one, as THR reports that he’ll star in Assassin, from director J.K. Amalou.
The film has a plot you’d expect from the actor, as he’ll play ‘a professional contract killer who compromises himself when he realizes that his latest victim is the estranged father of the girl he has fallen in love with.’
One day I really hope I get to write a story saying he’s gonna play a softly spoken, cerebral, physics professor involved in a gentle romance, because I’d love to see whether he could even vaguely pull it off. It’s unlikely to happen though, as it seems the actor has teamed with producer Jonathan Southcott (following Vendetta) to essentially turn Dyer into a brand, ensuring audiences know exactly what sort of gritty action Brit flick they’re getting is Danny’s name is attached.
Filming on Assassin starts next month.
