As we mentioned earlier today, Christopher McQuarrie is top of Paramount and Tom Cruise’s wishlist to direct Mission: Impossible 5, but while he mulls that over, the filmmaker has been hired to write and direct a remake of Ice Station Zebra for Warner Bros, according to THR.
The original 1968 movie, based on Alistair McLean’s novel, starred Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan, and Jim Brown. It follows the crew of an American submarine who are in a race against a Russian sub to recover sensitive materials in the Arctic.
At the moment there is no concrete timetable for either Ice Station Zebra and Mission: Impossible 5, so we’ll have to wait and see which comes first – although M:I 5 is the smart bet.
