Tate Taylor had a massive success with his directorial debut, The Help, but so far he hasn’t made a follow-up. Now he’s got a new movie in the works, as Taylor has optioned Stephen King’s upcoming novel, Joyland, according to Deadline.
The official description of the book says that it is, ‘Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.’
The novel is due to be published in June.
Taylor is planning to write the screenplay adaptation and direct. He’ll probably have to movie fast though, as fed up with people taking film rights to his books and then never actually making a film, King now allows people to option his novels for a small fee up front, but there is also a “ticking clock” aspect to ensure things keep moving towards the screen.
