With many expecting Hillary Clinton to make another bid for the White House in 2018, a biopic of her early days seems like a pretty good idea. South Korean writer Young Il Kim has written one, which was ranked fourth on the 2012 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays.
Now The Wrap reports that James Ponsoldt, the director behind Smashed and The Spectacular Now, has signed up to direct the movie, which is currently called, Rodham. Set during the time of the Watergate scandal, the story follows Hillary when she is the youngest lawyer chosen for the House Judiciary Committee to Impeach Nixon. She has to choose between a career at the White House and her unresolved feelings for former boyfriend Bill Clinton, who is teaching law in Arkansas at the time of the movie.
The Twilight Saga producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are backing the film, and plan to attach an actress to play Hillary before shopping the project to studios. While many top actresses have expressed interest in the role, the movie is still in the early stages of development and nobody has been cast.
