The received wisdom is that in the modern age, westerns don’t make huge amounts of money at the box office, but Disney is making a $200+ million bet on The Lone Ranger. It’s perhaps not as mad as it sounds, as people said the same thing about pirate movies until Johnny Depp, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer came up with Pirates Of The Caribbean – and they’re the same people behind Lone Ranger.
Now an explosive new trailer has been released, which certainly make the film look like it could be a lot of fun, even if the tone is slightly uneven.

Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justicetaking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’
It’s out July 3rd in the US and August 9th in the UK.
