It seems Judy Greer is soon going to be donning a motion-capture suit and channelling her best ape, as Vulture reports that the Jeff Who Lives at Home and The Descendants actress has joined the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. She’s signed on to play a female ape called Cornelia, who’s a potential love interest for Andy Serkis’ super-intelligent chimp, Caesar.
The actress comments, “For so long I haven’t been able to say anything about it, so this is exciting! It’s a very different kind of work than I’m used to. I’m not going to be wearing Manolo Blahniks in this one.”
It seems she’s going to get major points from her husband for taking the role, as Greer says, “I married a man who … I’m gonna use the word obsessed. He is obsessed with Planet of the Apes. We had a chimp husband-and-wife cake topper at our wedding. At the cocktail hour, we played Planet of the Apes and Rise of the Planet of the Apes on two separate televisions in the bar area. And on the wedding gift I bought him, a vintage Rolex, I had it engraved, ‘Ape shall not kill ape.’ I was then told that, technically, it’s ‘Ape shall never kill ape,’ but there wasn’t enough space for engraving purposes.”
Greer joins a human cast that includes Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell. The film is set 15 years after Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, when smart simians are beginning to take over, but a resistance group of humans in San Francisco try to fight back. Caesar meanwhile is having difficulty keeping control of the growing ranks of apes.
Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback.
