We’d take this a speculative rumour at the moment, but The New York Daily News is reporting that with Joel Silver and Studio Canal recently revealing they’re teaming up for another crack at putting together a remake of Escape From New York, they’re looking at casting either Jason Statham or Tom Hardy in the lead role of Snake Plissken.
The paper’s source, who’s described as a Hollywood insider close to the films producers, says the studio believes that Statham “has the physical attributes and screen presence to reprise Snake”, while Hardy’s turn in The Dark Knight Rises was impressive enough to get consideration. However it doesn’t sound like either actor has been approached, so they may not be interested. Either way, the remake is hoping to get its Plissken cast by the end of the summer.
There’s no director attached to the film yet – which is being planned as a trilogy that will take into account Snake’s origins – and it’s not clear when it might shoot.
