Until there’s anything even vaguely official, I’d take this one with a pinch of salt, but Latino Review reports that suggests Christopher Nolan has agreed to take on producer duties on the long-planned Justice League movie. They also suggest Christian Bale may return as Batman and Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman.
In recent months Justice League has been in trouble, with reports that Warner hated Will Beall’s script and that they would have to start again from scratch. Along with that issue, there have been suggestion the scope of the project is scaring many at DC. While they want to catch up to Marvel’s cinematic universe, they’re also aware that if Justice League turns out to be a disaster, it could severely harm several key characters’ chances on the big screen. Many believe that Justice League’s fate rests solely on whether this summer’s Man of Steel becomes a major hit.
With so many worries and uncertainties, one of the few things that would be likely to give everyone a bit of confidence would be getting Chris Nolan on-board in some capacity. If Latino Review is correct, he’s now agreed to do that, shepherding the project to the screen just as he did with Man of Steel.
This means that Christian Bale may return as Batman, even though he stated multiple times that The Dark Knight Rises would be his last turn as Bruce Wayne. That said, the actor did hint in a recent interview that if Christopher Nolan came to him with another Batman story, he might be interested in donning the cowl once again.
It is also being said that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will produce Justice League alongside Christopher Nolan, and that he may possibly end up directing Justice League. The suggestion is that Christopher Nolan is going to be developing/shepherding all of Warner’s superhero projects from now on, in a similar way to what Mark Millar is doing at Fox, and Joss Whedon at Marvel. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio, so consider this information a slightly dubious rumor for now.
