Tom Hardy has been busy filling his development roster in the last few months, and now he’s got another one, as Variety reports that he’s signed up to star in the new indie drama Samarkand.
The movie is about a British SAS soldier (Tom Hardy) who returns home from a Middle East conflict. He struggles to re-acclimatise himself to civilian life, while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. It certainly sounds like a difficult role, showing off Hardy’s acting skills.
Greg Williams and Olly Williams wrote the screenplay, which marks their first feature project. Tom Hardy also starred in Greg Williams’ short film, Sergeant Slaughter My Big Brother, which won multiple awards for Best Director. It’s Greg who will be directing this movie, too.
The title Samarkand refers to the Uzbekistan city that is considered one of the oldest in the world.
