Last summer, the Rolling Stone article The Gangster Princess of Beverly Hills became a bit of a viral sensation. Now it may be heading to the movies, with Deadline reporting that Craig Brewer (Footloose) has signed on to write and direct a film version of the article for Paramount Pictures.
The article told the incredible true story of Lisette Lee, a wealthy young woman who portrayed herself to be an actress, model, singer, and even an heir to the Samsung fortune. In reality, she was actually a drug mule who was caught smuggling 500 pounds of marijuana in June 2010, which landed her a six-year prison sentence.
However many believed she was a Paris Hilton style socialite, who was living the high life in LA.
Brewer will also write the screenplay adaptation based on Sabrina Rubin Erdley’s article.
