Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt is getting busy. Just a couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’s setting up a movie adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ World War I novel, Birdsong. Now Variety reports that he’s in talks to take over the long-gestating movie version of the 1980s TV series, The Equalizer, for Sony Pictures.
Denzel Washington is already attached to star as a former spy who lives a solitary, reclusive life. He now devotes his time to stopping helpless people from being victimised. The original TV series, which starred Edward Woodward, ran for four seasons from 1985 to 1989.
Last December, Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was talking to direct, but he’s no longer involved in the project. Assuming the deal goes through, Wyatt will direct from a screenplay by Richard Wenk.
