The Vatican Tapes aren’t what made the Pope resign, it’s actually a long gestating movie that now seems to be moving forward once again with the news, via Variety, that Crank co-director Mark Neveldine has signed on to direct, replacing the previously attached James Marsh.
The project has been in development since November 2009 and centres on a series of events triggered by a leaked tape of an exorcism at the Vatican. which goes horribly wrong. Christopher Borrelli wrote the screenplay, based on an original story he crafted with Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 6, 47 Ronin).
The Vatican Tapes will be the Neveldine’s first solo directorial outing after sharing duties with Brian Taylor on Crank, Crank High Voltage, Gamer, and Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. It isn’t known when Vatican Tapes might shoot.
