While its not unusual for Hollywood to pick up the rights to a TV series, it’s rarer for someone to buy a single episode with the hop of turning it into a movie. However that’s what’s happened with Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror.
The episode The Entire History Of You has certainly excited some of Hollywood’s top names, with Bleeding Cool reporting that Robert Downey Jr. beat out George Clooney for the rights. At the moment Downey is just down to produce, but could well star as well.
The episode, written by Jesse Armstrong, is set in a future where humans have tiny implants that record the persons entire life, making all memories and events available for playback. Toby Kebbell plays a lawyer who’s worried about losing his wife (Jodie Whittaker) and think she could be having an affair with another man (Tom Cullen). The chip implant plays a big part in unraveling past events and what’s actually going on.
Black Mirror returned to UK TV this week, and it’ll be interesting to see if any other episodes excite Hollywood.
