Jeremy Renner is a busy boy, even if he’s yet to truly establish himself as a big box office name (Avengers and Mission Impossible 4 don’t really count). Now he’s lining up a new project, with Variety reporting that he’s set to star in and produce Kill The Messenger.
Michael Cuesta is set to direct from Peter Landesman’s script, which is based on investigative journalist Gary Webb’s stories alleging that the CIA was involved in the spread of crack cocaine in Los Angeles. Webb killed himself in 2004 after being subject to an alleged smear campaign following his three-art series of articles that linked the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California.
The current plan is to shoot the movie this summer, as long as funding can be found (they’ll be looking for it at the Berlin Film Festival over the next couple of weeks).
