Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy got a huge amount of praise when it was released in 2011, so it’s little surprise filmmakers have been sniffing around other John Le Carre novels. Now it seems one of the author’s latest could be coming to the screen, with Ewan McGregor attached to star.
The Daily Mail has the news, saying Ewan is attached to star in Our Kind of Traitor, based on Le Carre’s 2010 espionage novel. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon, ‘An English couple, Perry and Gail, are taking an off-peak holiday on the Caribbean island of Antigua. By seeming chance they bump into a Russian millionaire called Dima who owns a peninsula and a diamond-encrusted gold watch. He also has a tattoo on his right thumb, and wants a game of tennis.
‘What else he wants propels the young lovers on a tortuous journey through Paris to a safe house in the Swiss Alps, to the murkiest cloisters of the City of London and its unholy alliance with Britain’s Intelligence Establishment.’ The problem is that the Russian believes Perry is a spy, but he isn’t, which causes issues when the Rusky confesses to being the world’s biggest money launderer who want to turn himself in.
Justin Kurzel, who directed the excellent Aussie thriller The Snowtown Murders, is set to helm the project.
