Turning cartoon characters live-action has proved profitable with the likes of The Smurfs and Alvin & The Chipmunks, so it’s not surprising Warner Bros has been looking at which animated properties they might want to bring to the big screen for a hybrid live-action/cgi outing.
Now Bleeding Cool has dug up some test footage of Hong Kong Phooey and Marvin The Martian, so we can see what they might have looked like under the direction of Alex Zamm (Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2). Unfortunately, the fact they’ve been put online suggests both projects are likely dead, although Warner may be monitoring response to them to see whether they want to move forward. However, don’t expect to see these incarnations anytime soon.
Both characters are kind of fun in a live-action world, but you can understand why the studio might be reticent about making feature-length versions – not least because neither are characters who are that well known to kids nowadays. Take a look at the test footage above.
