Last month it was revealed that Fox Searchlight was going after Tom Hardy for their adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s short story, Animal Rescue. Now Deadline reports that the actor is in final talks to star in the movie, and that the female lead has been offered Noomi Rapace – although it isn’t known how close she is to starring.
Lehane has also written the movie’s script, which is about a bartender who rescues a pit bull from a garbage can, and as a result gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy at the Mafia-controlled bar where he works. At the moment, it’s not clear who Rapace will play.
While the original story is set in Boston, the adaptation will take place in New York City, which is where director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) plans to start directing the movie next March.
