Mark Wahlberg seems to like movies based on magazine articles at the moment, as he’s got Pain & Gain coming to cinemas next year and now THR reports that he has signed up to produce an untitled hacker-themed project for Universal Pictures, loosely based on a January article in GQ Magazine by David Kushner.
Jonathan Herman is on screenplay duty, writing a script that follows a skilled hacker who goes after the students at a large, suburban high school. He has previously written Conviction and Rites of Men, both of which landed on the Black List. The writer has a bit of a history with Wahlberg, having previously served as a production assistant on Boogie Nights.
Mark Wahlberg will produce alongside his partner Stephen Levinson, who have produced Entourage and the current HBO hit series Boardwalk Empire. At the moment there’s no indication that Wahlberg is set to star too.
