John McNaughton’s directing career has been pretty sporadic. He first broke out with 1986’s Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, got people hot under the collar with 1998’s Wild Things, but he hadn’t helmed a movie since Speaking Of Sex in 2002.
Now he’s planning to return with The Harvest and has signed Michael Shannon, Samantha Morton, and Natasha Calis to star. The film, written by Stephen Lancellotti, isn about two parents (Shannon and Morton) who live in a secluded environment with their ailing son (Charlie Tahan). When a young girl (Calis) moves in next door, it gives the boy hope for a better life, but this doesn’t please his over-protective mother. Leslie Lyles and Meadow Williams also star.
McNaughton commented, “This is the first horror script I’ve been interested in in 25 years, so it’s kind of cool to return to the genre.”
Production is already underway in New York.
