The sequel to 2010’s Salt has been moving forward very slowly, but now it’s got a bit more forward momentum as Becky Johnston (The Prince of Tides, Seven Years In Tibet) has been hired to write the screenplay, according to THR.
Johnston takes over from Kurt Wimmer, the writer of the first film, who came onboard to pen the follow-up not long after the first film was released. However, actress Angelina Jolie apparently wasn’t pleased with the direction of that script, which is what’s led to Becky Johnston coming on board. There’s no details on what direction this new screenplay might be taking.
Salt starred Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA spy who is accused of being a Russian double-agent. Original director Phillip Noyce has already said he isn’t interested in makign a sequel, but no replacement has been announced yet.
