A couple of months ago, it was revealed that Christoph Waltz was in talk to star in The Muppets 2. However a deal couldn’t be reached with the Oscar winner due to scheduling conflicts and so he’s been replaced by Modern Family star Ty Burrell, according the THR.
Burrell is set to play an Interpol inspector, one of the key, non-puppet roles, in a film that’s said to bring Kermit and co. to Europe. Other parts that are still being cast are a Russian femme fatale and a mysterious male lead. There are also expected to be a slew of cameos.
Muppets director James Bobin is returning helm the film, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nick Stoller. Jason Segel, who co-wrote and starred in The Muppets is not coming back for the sequel. Shooting is slated to begin this winter in London (which means Burrell is going to have to slot in his role amongst his Modern Family commitments).
