Several months ago now, Sony revealed that they were thinking of remaking Jumanji. Now that’s moved forwards, with THR reporting that Zach Helm has signed up to take a first crack at the script.
Helm is best known for writing Stranger Than Fiction and (in a more Jumanji vein) Mr Magoriums Wonder Emporium. Now he’s taking on Chris Van Allsburgs 1981 book, about two kids (played in the first film by Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce) who discover the game called Jumanji. When they play it, they discover that whatever happens in the game unleashes things in real life, including a horde of animals and a man who’s trapped in the games world since he was a child (originally Robin Williams).
There’s no news on whether this new take will put any sort of radical spin on the story or if it will be a straightforward retelling for a new generation.
