The problems that saw the Terry Gilliam and Johnny Depp collaboration, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, collapse amidst the health problems of actors, financial issues and a storm that destroyed the set, are legendary. It was a passion project for Depp that never happened, but it doesn’t look like he’s given up on doing some sort of adaptation Miguel de Cervantes classic novel.
The Gilliam reinterpretation of the tale is long dead, but now Deadline reports that Disney has picked up an untitled pitch for a new Don Quixote movie and attached Johnny Depp. While the actor is currently attached to act in the movie, it’s believed the film is being written as a starring vehicle for Depp.
Steve Pink and Jeff Morris are attached to write the screenplay, and will start work on the script immediately. The project is described as a modern-day re-imagining of the character, although no specific story details are known.
