Legendary Pictures obviously has high hopes for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim, their big bet for a major box office hit next summer, as they’ve already hired screenwriter Travis Beacham to pen Pacific Rim 2. That should ensure that if the first film does hit big, they’ll be able to churn out a follow-up pretty quickly.
Beacham wrote the original screenplay for Pacific Rim, which follow a defense force consisting of pilots who operate giant robots known as Jaegers. They are pitted against giant Kaiju monsters that spill from some sort of portal in the Pacific and are intent on destroying the entire planet.
Guillermo del Toro is set to collaborate with Travis Beacham on the sequel screenplay, but at the moment it isn’t know if he will return to direct, or if he will hand the reins over to someone else. The director is currently commited to helming Crimson Peak for Universal Pictures, which begins shooting in January of 2014. (Source: THR)
