There are a lot of Family Guy fans out there who’d love a movie featuring Quahog’s Griffin clan, especially after seeing with Ted that Seth MacFarlane’s particular brand of humour works perfectly on film.
Now MacFarlane has been talking about a Family Guy film and said during a visit to UCLA that “its just a matter of when. However fitting it into the schedule while they’ve got 20-odd half-hour episodes to produce each year is tough – as Seth pointed out, it’s why it took The Simpsons 20 years to get to the big screen.
There is a plan is place though, with MacFarlane saying, “We do know what the Family Guy movie will be. The Simpsons movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that its a story they probably couldve done on TV. There couldve been an episode that had that plotline. Thats the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”
That suggests it’s either a story that’s too big to tell on TV (although that would seem unlikely, considering they’ve done the entire Star Wars original trilogy Family Guy-style for television), or deal with subjects that are too rude or controversial for the networks. That would seem far more likely, seeing as Fox has refused to air two episodes of the show that were made – one dealing with abortion and the other that could possibly have been offensive to Jews (although it wasn’t, at all).
So we’re just gonna have to wait and hopefully it’ll come sooner rather than later.
