The Stephen King adaptation Mercy has decided to mine young stars from other popular entertainment, casting The Walking Dead’s 13-year-old Chandler Riggs and 16-year-old Super 8 star Joel Courtney in the lead roles, according to THR.
The film is about two brothers (Riggs and Courtney) who go with their mother (Frances O’Connor) to take care of their grandmother. However, the boys soon discover that their grandma is actually an evil witch who uses black magic. The project is based on Stephen King’s short story, Gramma, first published in 1984.
The Haunting in Connecticut filmmaker Peter Cornwell has signed up to direct, working from an adapted screenplay by Matt Greenberg. Jason Blum, Mary Viola, and McG are producing this relatively low budget project. It’s not known when it might shoot.
