Last week it was revealed that 20th Century Fox and Radar Pictures are set to team up to make a movie based on the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood. Now the film has moved forward with the news, via THR, that Terminator: Salvation and This Means War’s McG has signed on to direct.
Nothing is known about the story for this film, although it will likely have something to do with the establishment’s rich history. The LA venue is where some of the world’s top magicians gather to meet, perform for one another and trade secrets (some may remember the Magic Castle from Arrested Development, but not realised it was a real place). The mansion was built in 1909 and turned into a private night club back in 1963. Sadly though it’s closed to the public (the only way to get in is if you’ve been invited by a member), so few now what really goes on inside.
Andrew Barrer and Gabe Ferrari are writing the screenplay.
McG won’t get going on Magic Castle for a while yet as he will soon begin production on Three Days to Kill, starring Kevin Costner. After that project wraps in February, the director will turn his attention to the magical movie.
