Do you fancy watching a lot of older men punching each other? Well, Grudge Match is the movie for you, which will see Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro as aging boxers who head back into the ring against one another. Now they have some company, as Variety reports that Alan Arkin has signed up for the movie.
The film is said to want to evoke the spirit of Space Cowboys, although rather than seeing old guys go into space, this one has retired boxers Billy “The Kid” McGuigan and Henry “Razor” Sharp (De Niro and Stallone), who were bitter rivals during their pugilist careers, coaxed out of retirement for one last bout. However these aren’t guys who gave up fighting a couple of years ago, as their last match-up was 40 years ago. Alan Arkin will be channeling his best Burgess Meredith playing Stallone’s manager. Kim Basinger and Kevin Hart also star.
Tim Kelleher wrote the original draft of the screenplay, with Entourage creator Doug Ellin providing the most recent rewrite. Peter Segal (Get Smart) will direct, although it isn’t known when the film might shoot.
