Magic, of the illusion variety, seems to be popular in Hollywood at the moment, as the Steve Carell magic comedy Burt Wonderstone is due out next spring, while Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me, about a team of illusionists who rob banks, is out next year too.
Now THR has learned that a movie is in the works based on the Magic, the LA venue where some of the world’s top magicians gather to meet, perform for one another and trade secrets (some may remember the Magic Castle from Arrested Development, but not realised it was a real place). The mansion was built in 1909 and turned into a private night club back in 1963. Sadly though it’s closed to the public (the only way to get in is if you’ve been invited by a member), so few now what really goes on inside.
Ted Field serving as a producer through his Radar Pictures label, with 20th Century Fox backing the film. To be honest if Burt Wonderstone and Now You See Me bomb, don’t be shocked if we never here about this one again, but if they hit it big, it’s likely it’ll go into production quickly.
