Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to revisit his past, as it’s been revealed, via Variety, he’s returning to the franchise that helped kick-start his acting career, taking the lead in The Legend of Conan for Universal Pictures. Schwarzenegger has also tweeted the first shot from the set of Ten, which you can see above.
With Legend Of Conan they’re going to completely ignore the failed Conan reboot from last year, which starred Jason Momoa in the title role. The film will apparently be a sequel to Arnie’s first Conan movie, which means it will also pretty much ignoring Conan The Destroyer. Fredrik Malmberg and Christopher Morgan will produce for Universal. Morgan may write the screenplay as well, if he has enough time after writing the seventh Fast & Furious flick. Universal is apparently betting big on the film, as this action adventure based on the works of Robert E. Howard will serve as their tentpole picture for the summer of 2014.
Producer Fredrik Malmberg commented, “The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger also had something to say, “I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Christopher Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”
As for Ten, that movie is now shooting with Arnie joined by Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Dawn Olivieri, Joe Manganiello, Malin Akerman and Josh Holloway. It’s about members of an elite DEA task force find themselves being taken down one by one after they rob a drug cartel safe house. David Ayer directs.
