Elijah Wood Takes On The Late Bloomer – He’ll be going through puberty at the age of 30

2nd October 2012 By Tim Isaac

It’s been revealed that Elijah Wood is set to play the lead role in the new comedy The Late Bloomer, based on Ken Baker’s acclaimed 2001 memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body, with a shooting date of January 2013 already set.

Joe Nussbaum and Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove have come up with the script, based on the amazing true story of a man who found out at when he was around 30 years of age that he hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty. When the medical condition preventing it was removed, in several short, overwhelming weeks he went through all the hormones and changes most people go through in their teenage years.

TV director Randall Einhorn will helm the movie. He commented, “The Late Bloomer is the type of wonderful heartfelt comedy that I like to engage in. Puberty can be difficult at best and has the potential to be extremely comedic in normal circumstances. This true story is anything but a normal circumstance. That truth is a new twist on something we all know well and Elijah is just perfect to play the lead role. It is clear to me that Dignity gets my vision for The Late Bloomer and I am delighted to be working with Maggie and her team.”

Wood will next be seen returning to the role of Bilbo Baggins in book-end sequences in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and we can also expect to see him in Maniac soon, a remake of the 1980 serial-killer classic. He is currently filming the psychological thriller Grand Piano opposite John Cusack. (Source: The Playlist)
