When Little House On The Prairie is mentioned, most people immediately think of the slightly cheesy TV series that ran from 1974 to 1983, starring Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert. However it was of course based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books about her own youth, and now Deadline reports that director David Gordon Green will be going back to those source novels for a new movie version.
Abi Morgan (Shame, The Iron Lady) is on scripting duties, based on the book series written between 1932 and 1943, which follow a farm family in the late 19th Century American West who have to deal with the hardships of western life, but still have a good time.
David Gordon Green is certainly an eclectic helmer, having started out indie with George Washington and Undertow, gone comedy with the likes of Pineapple Express, Your Highness and The Sitter, and planning a horror remake in the form of Suspiria. Little House is something very different once again.
