Jay Baruchel has taken to Twitter to says he’s busy planning Goon 2, a sequel to Michael Dowse’s indie hit comedy film Goon, which opened to surprisingly good reviews and healthy box office last year. As with the first movie, Baruchel will be writing the sequel, although this time with Jesse Chabot rather than Evan Goldberg.
Goon stars Seann William Scott as ex-bouncer Doug Glatt, whose prowess with his fists lands him on a mediocre semi-pro hockey team. Despite the fact Glatt’s not great at the hockey part of the game, he helps lead the team to victory. The film was based on a book by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith, titled Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey.
Here is what Jay Baruchel had to say about the upcoming sequel in a series of Tweets, ‘I’d like to say thank you to all of you for all the GOON 2 love. You guys are wicked.’ We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required. HIGH. LAND. ERS.’ ‘Evan Goldberg will be involved as a producer and we will all be working our asses off to make as awesome a flick as possible.’ ‘And YES @mdowse is directing the motherfucker!#gaypornhard.’
There’s no news on when it might shoot, although presumably Seann William Scott is also involved with the film.
