Now Lincoln is nearing release, Spiellberg is starting to gear up development on his next movie, Robopocalypse. A few weeks ago it was revealed he hoped to sign Chris Hemsworth for the movie, now it appears the Aussie actor in definitely onboard, and THR says Anne Hathaway is in talks to play the female lead in the film.
There’s also a Dreamworks press release about the movie, which is mainly about Tom Rothman signing on as a producer. Rothman is the longtime head of 20th Century Fox film (he’s been with the company for 18 years), who resigned from his position a few days ago. Now he’s turning producer, with Robopocalypse one of his first project.
The current plan is for the movie to begin principal photography in early 2013, with a release date alreadys et of April 25th, 2014 day and date worldwide. Exploring the fate of the human race following a robot uprising, Robopocalypse has been adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson.
Spielberg commented on Rothman coming onbaord, “When someone like Tom is a free agent, you snatch him up fast. He has proven himself to be a necessity of this industry. At Fox he had already been an enthusiastic partner on Robopocalypse, and it is to our advantage that he would come produce this film with me. Tom has been a wonderful friend and colleague over the years and DreamWorks is incredibly lucky to have him on board.
