A couple months ago rumours emerged that Warner Bros. was hoping to reinvigorate Looney Tunes with a new movie. Now that plan is moving forwards as the studio has hired former Saturday Night Live cast member Jenny Slate to write the screenplay, according to THR.
Since May 2010 the studio has been trying to ensure kids don’t forget the animated brand with a series of short films and the TV series The Looney Tunes Show on Cartoon Network, and now they’re bringing them back to the big screen, hoping that’s have more success that they did with 1996’s Space Jam and 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back In Action. Like those movie the project will be a live-action/CGI animation mix, but there’s no news on the plot the film might follow.
Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing through their KatzSmith Productions, alongside Harry Potter producer David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. Although she is best known as an actress, with recent roles in Dr. Seuss’ the Lorax and This Means War, Jenny Slate co-wrote and co-voiced the animated short Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, which has more than 18 million views on YouTube.
