Director Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Push) is in final talks to take the helm of Fox’s Frankenstein, taking over from the previously attached Shawn Levy (Real Steel), according to THR.
Levy apparently exited after it became clear that the filmmaker and studio had different visions for the project. Shawn Levy wanted a big-budget affair, while the studio wanted to cut costs. Last July Max Landis (Chronicle) signed on to write the screenplay, although it isn’t known if a new writer will now be brought on to the project.
The planb is to create a revisionist take on Mary Shelley’s classic novel, with a sci-fi twist. The story will also tackle themes such as friendship and redemption.
