Until recently Hugh Laurie was in talks to be the bad guy in Robocop, but a few days ago he had to drop out, leaving producers to scramble to find a replacement. Now they’ve got their man, as Michael Keaton has signed on to play the primary villain, OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars, in the movie.
Director José Padilha commented on this latest casting, “Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.”
Joel Kinnaman is set to star as the Detroit cop Alex Murphy, who is fatally wounded in the line of duty and resurrected by OmniCorp, who turn him into a half-man half-machine crime fighter. Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Jackie Earle Haley also star. Shooting starts next month.(Source: Variety)
