Much of The Avengers success wasn’t just down to bringing a load of superheroes together, it was in the way Joss Whedon did it. Marvel Studios seems to have realised that, as they’ve signed Joss to a three-year deal, which will cover The Avengers 2, development of a TV series and possibly other projects too.
At Comic-Con Whedon said he was yet to decide whether he would write and direct Avengers 2, but now it seems as deal has been struck as Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that Whedon is on-board for the highly-anticipated sequel. He’s also confirmed that Whedon is involved in the development of an ABC live-action television series that will be set inside the Marvel cinematic universe
Marvel’s The Avengers took the box office by storm this summer, raking in a massive $616.7 million at the domestic box office, and over $1.4 billion worldwide, making it the third highest grossing movie of all time. The sequel won’t hit theaters until at least 2015, since Marvel Studios currently has the sequels Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and an animated Guardians Of The Galaxy movie slated for release between now and 2014.
